Paradise Lost

When you fell my little one you knew
What you had lost
A moment too late is still too late
And wings won’t raise you up
Above your choices
You glide safe down
To where you may yet land
Survey your home

I could have told you little one the fall
Is glorious at first
And then the dark is nothing but the dark
Your spirit’s tiny spark
Could never wage its war
Against the tide of time
Not yours nor mine

I released you little one with such regret
But I gave you choice
I’d take it back and yet
All that we will give is all that we will get
Our wings are wonderful they fly
Against our ravaged sky
And would that we forget
By and by
